We like to think of Panhandle Provisions as the “Jewel of Juneau”. The unique flavors and creativity that come from the kitchen of this little hole in the wall deli are unlike anything one can imagine. Kimchi salami, reindeer prosciutto, and Alaskan pork salami are just a few things on the delicious menu.  Owned by Chef Beau Schooler and his business partner Travis Smith, Panhandle offers the eclectic tastes of Alaska that are not found in any other store or restaurant in Juneau.

Every meat in the store is cured and/or smoked in-house, the breads and baked goods are made fresh every day, and the pickled vegetables guests sample are also made in-house.  The store is an addition to the Rookery Café family of businesses and highlights the guerilla cooking style of Chef Beau, who recently won the Great American Seafood Cook-Off in New Orleans.  In fact, Chef Beau is the only Alaskan chef to win this prestigious contest, at which each chef is chosen by their state’s governor.  He is also the only chef in Juneau to be nominated for a James Beard award – 2015 Rising Star.

UPDATE:  We are excited to announce that Chef Beau was again nominated for a James Beard Rising Star award! Juneau is so proud!  We are also excited to say that Travis and Chef Beau have added a new eatery to their restaurant family: In Bocca al Lupo. An Italian restaurant that Juneau locals have been eagerly anticipating.  Chef Beau trained in Italy and is bringing those skills to this new location. This is a very exciting addition to the Juneau food scene.

It is truly our pleasure to include Panhandle Provisions on our tour and to offer flavors that are not available in any other city.  This is real Alaskan food by real Alaskans.
