Meet The Juneau Food Tours Team! Owner/Operator: Kelly “Midgi” Moore

Q. What do a food columnist, two musicians, a professional theatre usher, an archery addict, and someone who speaks three languages have in common?

A. They make up the Juneau Food Tours guide team!

A culinary, or food, tour is typically all about the food. However, a great guide is what makes a tour a true experience. A guide’s knowledge of the city, its food, its culture, and its history brings an intrinsic flavor to the tour along with sincere authenticity. Our guides live in Juneau year-round and they dine at the restaurants guests will visits.

Juneau Food Tours takes great pride in our guides. They were chosen for their keen insight into the city and their fun energy.  A food tour involves all the senses and the guide is a component of that experience.  Because a food tour is a personal experience, we thought it would be fun to introduce our guides to you. Each week we will highlight a new guide so that you can get to know the Juneau Food Tours family.

This first week it seems fitting to introduce Kelly “Midgi” Moore, the owner of Juneau Food Tours.  She is originally from Georgia, but has lived in Juneau for six years. “I moved here with my husband and when I arrived, I knew that I had come home.”

Midgi has made her mark in Juneau by writing a food blog,, and writing a food column for the Capital City Weekly, which is distributed throughout Southeast Alaska.  Each week she shares a bit of her Alaskan experiences and a recipe.

“I absolutely love Juneau and I have an incredible passion for food. I thought it would be fun to combine the two into an opportunity to share with visitors. I wanted more than a sight-seeing tour.  What’s more fun than eating your way through a city?”  Midgi’s inside track and knowledge of the food scene in Juneau is demonstrated in her enthusiasm and humor as she guides her tour groups.  Oh, and be sure to ask her how she got the nickname Midgi — it’s a fun story too!

Our goal is to ensure all guests have a great time and by the end of the tour, you’ve made a new friend.
